About Us
Jose Vizcaya and Bevin Deiters form a dynamic staging team. Jose is a Spanish-born interior designer, and Bevin Deiters is a skilled handywoman and painter, as well as a licensed real estate agent with extensive appraisal training.
A fledgling real estate agent, Bevin saw an excellent opportunity to have her decorator/friend, Jose Vizcaya, stage the homes for which she secured listings. Little did she know that being a real estate agent would have to wait while she threw herself into helping Jose prepare homes for sale. Paving the way for Jose to become an established stager soon gave way to staging full-time herself: Bevin chose the name Vizcaya Design to honor Jose's signature design style.
In addition to being a trained interior designer, Jose is an accomplished fine artist and has had shows in galleries and private homes throughout San Francisco. Sometimes his pieces are used in the stage. Staging comes naturally to Jose: he has an impeccable aesthetic and he knows what sells: an aspect of his former career was dedicated to in-store and window displays in some of Europe's most well known retail and design establishments.
HISTORY
Vizcaya Design staged its first home in February 2005. The property sold after one open house for 5% over asking. Vizcaya Design's second staging job yielded similar results. In October 2005, Vizcaya Design staged a home (de-cluttered, packed, repositioned, brought in some new things, painted old furniture to make it look new, and tightened the place up). After 2 Sunday open houses, the deal was done, and the property had sold for 15% over asking. The original listing price was at market value, not below.
Success stories abound. Bevin's story of her own 4-unit building is important to mention: top and bottom floors identical. Back units were smaller with views. Front units had larger, open floor plans. Jose and Bevin staged one of each on the lower level, as the top typically are the more desirable and will likely not need as much help selling. The outcome: the staged units get ALL the action: multiple, above asking offers on the staged, and single, at asking offers on the unstaged units. For us, this was an important proof of the value and effectiveness of staging.
